Stash busting is all the rage
Seems like everybody is making some kind of stash-busting pledge. Monica and Lynette, Jen and La — you’ve all inspired me. Plus, I need to find more space in my craft room (it’s getting crowded in there), AND I want to save up some spending money for the cruise in May (shipboard spa, here I come!). So here are some stash-busting goals for myself:
My main goals are to :
(A) Turn heaps of lovely yarn into lovely projects because isn’t that why I bought it in the first place? It seems a shame that these fibers aren’t being allowed to reach their full potential in an actual project.
(B) Be realistic about the MASSIVE stash of (mostly) acrylics that I inherited last year. Some of it can stay and become cute baby blankets and such, but the rest needs to find a new home.
C) In yarn, as with all kinds of “stuff”, I’d like to take better advantage of what I already own before I spend money aquiring more. Or at least, I should be aware of what I already have and take that into consideration for a change.
So, with those goals in mind, here’s my personal stash-busting plan:
1. Pick out which skeins from the acrylic stash that I think I will really use and give away/sell the rest.
2. Evaluate my personal stash and keep only the yarns that continue to charm me. Give away/sell the leftovers from that stash, too.
3. Keep at least one stash-busting project going at all times, for as long as possible — at least until my remaining stash will fit into its original plastic tubs (with room to grow).
Exceptions:
* Yarn may be purchased using Christmas gift certificates.
* Yarn may be purchased for planned gift projects.
* Yarn may be purchased to be used in conjunction with yarn in the stash.
Naturally, I’m sure I’ll find other reasons to break my rules, but I pledge to carefully consider the stash-ramifications before each purchase (something I’ve not always done in the past).
I’m trying to stick with this until March, at which time I plan to splurge on yarn for at least one new project as a birthday present to myself. At that point, I’ll regroup and figure out whether another stash-busting plan is in order.

Good luck Jena! Isn’t it funny how fast the stash expands?
I just bought new yarn yesterday. Bad bad bad…

Good luck with your stashbusting! It’s been really difficult for me to stick with it so I hope you have more success with yours than I did.
