Meet Miss Miffy

I happened to find this adorable little story book about Miffy the bunny at the dollar store the other day, and I thought it would be perfect for a Christmas project that I want to put together for my niece. I want to make a nap time pillow for her with pockets to hold a book and a little doll.

Fortunately, I also just received Jess Hutchinson’s booklet of cute knitted creature patterns — so I adapted the Dolly pattern to have ears, and voila! Miffy is born!

I also strayed from the pattern by using lighter yarn and smaller needles (KnitPicks Merino Style, US6), so my Miffy is only about 6 inches tall. Isn’t she sweet?

Oh, and I’ve since learned that Miffy has her own show on Noggin, and you can also find out more about her from creator Dick Bruna’s site.

Miffy was everywhere when I lived in Japan about 8 years ago. So simple and so cute! I love your little knitted one.

very cute! I love the dress. What a great, great gift idea. (I’ll steal it in a couple years when this influx of babies in my family are grown into toddlers.)

Adding to what you learned, and what Heidi said, Miffy is sort of the bridesmaid to Hello Kitty. Her gear is not nearly as prolific in Japan, but there is quite a bit, stationery is a given (pens, pencils, envelopes, notecards, erasers, etc), as is the lunch kits (lunchboxes of all shapes, chopsticks, cups, plastic forks and spoons), that sort of thing.
