Favorite Oscar Moment

I can’t help but love the Oscars. I love movies and I love all of the glitz and glamour. I thought Chris Rock made a mighty fine host this year. The tone of his opening monologue was a bit tense and awkward in some moments — not bad, just not necessarily Oscar-worthy in my opinion — but still, I thought he did a great job overall.

One of the weird choices was having Beyonce perform practically all the songs (except for that one where Antonio Banderas sang… huh?). Anyway, every time she took the stage, my mind drifted to the SNL “Prince Show” skits. (You can see where I’m going with this…) So, after her third performance, I couldn’t keep my little joke to myself anymore, so I leaned over to Kate and said, “Don’t you almost expect her to start singing the Prince Show theme at any moment?” And who should walk on stage at that very moment, but Prince himself! Loved it! That’s not to say that my feelings about Prince (wow) are anything at all related to my feelings about Beyonce (whatever). It was just really awesome timing. Hee hee.

I also loved seeing the classic glamorous gowns that so many stars were wearing. Much better than the JLo taped-on variety of years past. Lots of mermaid style skirts, I noticed. My favorites were Hilary Swank and Halle Berry, I think. I also liked Annette Benning’s dress quite a lot.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know many of the movies nominated this year, so I don’t have strong opinions one way or the other about most of the winners. I was glad to see Morgan Freeman win, just because he’s so good in so many things. I thought Jamie Foxx’s speech was sweet. Hilary Swank’s was just a boring list of names (”Oh, wait, wait… I almost forgot to thank my lawyers!”)
