Cable Eight Beginnings
I’ve joined Laura’s Cable-Eight Along. It just officially kicked off today, and can you believe that I’ve already begun?? (Unlike the Hayden Hat Along that I’ve basically flaked out on. Ahem.)
So here’s what we have so far…

I’m getting a kick out of how the cables just blend together in a slightly lumpy looking ribbing… untill I pull them apart…

Cool! I’m using Schoeller & Stahl Cecil yarn rescued from my stash. It’s a bulky weight cotton (very stringy) that just wasn’t working well in the tank design that I originally had in mind. The Cable-Eight pattern actually calls for a lighter weight cotton held doubled, but I can *almost* get gauge using a single strand of Cecil on size 10.5 needles.
Actually, this yarn is so splitty that it’s almost like working with about 6 strands of singles all held together, but whatever. I’m following the directions for the largest size and hoping it will all work out in the end. I was a little nervous about possibly running out of yarn, and I see that Elann.com is no longer carrying it… but then I remembered that Mariko had used this same yarn for a sweater last year right at about the same time that I was casting on with it the first time around. And lucky me, she has a couple of leftover balls that are winging their way to Indiana so that I won’t have to face a yarn crisis later on. (Thanks, chica!)

It looks great! I know what you mean about it being splitty, though. The end product is a tad on the heavy side, but it’s such a nice purple.
