Weekend & Beyond
Big drum roll for my first completed knitting object……

Woo hoo! I love my fuzzy new scarf! It turned out much longer than I expected, and it has stretched out even a bit more after wearing it for a couple of days. It’s just plain garter stitch (I’m learning the lingo), and I’m feeling very satisfied to have a completed project. Plus, it’s fun to have made something for myself to wear — I haven’t done that in a while.
I’m on a roll now. As I mentioned earlier, my latest feat has been to combine knits and purls into slightly more interesting patterns. Thus, my second scarf is also on the size 10.5 needles with more bulky acrylic yarn. But this time, I cast on 25 stitches. The center 17 stitches that make up the center band of the scarf is done in stockinette with a 4-stich-wide border of garter stitch all around. (Hard to tell in this crummy photo.) It’s a simple pattern that was suggested by ArticlePract.com (not sure exactly how I happened upon this site). I like it so far:

And last, but certainly not least, my sweet husband went with me on an exploration to find the Mass Ave Knit Shop in town. What a cool place. Has that vibe of small, used book stores that I just love. There are several couches in the front window, a huge table (full of chatting knitters) in the center of the shop, and, naturally, shelves and shelves of gorgeous yarns. I just wandered around in awe for a bit, and then signed up for their beginners class which begins next week. How excited am I?!
