Stripey Success
My brother’s welcome-home/happy-birthday scarf is done! It’s really long, and I love the way the colors and the ribbing came out. Didn’t do the most primo job of weaving in all those loose ends (bulky yarn knit loosely… how can you discreetly hide the tails?) — but that’s okay. It’s homey and cosy and I think he’ll like it.
What a relief it will be to have him back in the US of A again. He’ll be back from Korea less than 24 hours from now! For those of you who don’t know my family personally, my little bro Nathaniel is just wrapping up his first year in the army stationed in South Korea. He’s coming home for a nice long break, and then his next post will be in Kentucky. (Which means he’ll likely be sent from there to the Middle East in short order… but let’s not worry about that until we have to.)
His birthday also happens to have been earlier this week… ergo, the scarf. I also thought I’d give him a copy of the movie Tank Girl… but I’m having second thoughts since nobody but me seems to think that would be funny. (He’s drives a bradley tank in the infantry… get it? Tank Girl for “Tank Boy”? Har. Har.) Plus, I just think it’s a really funny movie.
Anyway. We’re having a little Oscar Night shin-dig at our house this Sunday, so I’ve been making some small attempts to get organized for that. (Luckily, my dear friend Jeni is helping with the details — what a superstar!) Last night, I made the world’s BEST version of banana bread. It’s Coconut Banana Bread with Lime Glaze from the Cooking Light magazine. Yummmy!

And last, but not least, I hope my new photo galleries have caught your eye! I’m pretty much up to date with my 2004 finished objects, but I’ll be adding some more to the 2003 & earlier list. I also want to play around with the template colors and layout a bit more — but I think it’s off to a good start. (Big hugs to Kate for helping me set everything up!)

I think that banana bread is the absolute best quick bread I’ve ever had. Yum.
The scarf looks great-I love the way it turned out. Can’t wait to hear what Than thinks of it…
(I think Tank Girl is funny, too)

A friend of mine has a little brother that has been in Korea with the Army for a while now too. I wonder if they know each other? I’m not sure what my friend’s brother does–I wonder if it’s as exciting as driving a tank!
I’m sure your brother will love that scarf–it turned out super! I always love the combo of sagey-green and red.
Coconut is always a fave in our house, so thanks for posting the bread recipe link! It looks delicious and I can’t wait to try it.
Off to check out your galleries now! Have a nice weekend!
(too many !!’s I know. I’m just an enthusiastic gal sometimes.)
