Jelly Bean Sock(s)
Giddy from the success of the Booga Bag, I took a deep breath and decided to give sock knitting a try. I’m hooked on self-patterning yarn! For my first sock experiment, I’m using Lion Brand Magic Stripes yarn in the Jelly Beans colorway. It’s 75% superwash wool, 25% nylon available in several fun colors — and a single skein makes a pair of socks for around $6-7. Perfect for a gal who doesn’t know what she’s doing!
As usual my guage is too tight, so I’m using needles one size up from what the pattern recommends (size 4 dpns). I’m finding the double-pointed needles aren’t too bad once I get going, but the first inch of ribbing is a bit on the loose and messy side. I find it tricky to keep from creating gaps where the needles meet. But I’m enjoying the learning process so far.
Here’s about 5 inches of progress:

I’m following the free Basic Socks pattern (pdf) from the Lion Brand website.
The thought of coping with the heel… is pretty bewildering at this point, but I’ll give it my best shot and see what happens!

Great tank! I love the colours. As for the socks -turning the heel is a piece of cake! Doing it once is all it takes to get the hang of it!
Good Luck!

it sounds confusing when you read about it, but when are you actually doing it with the sock in your hand, it will totally make sense. seriously. you’ll see.

I love knitting socks, and once you’ve turned a heel it all becomes clear, just follow the instructions! Cute colorway, too.
