Happy New Year!

Well, forming the habit of keeping this journal up to date hasn’t really happened quite yet. But I’m making it a resolution for this year to document my life, and particularly my projects, here at least a few times each month. We’re still trying to shift things around in the house to find a place for my computer — once we solve that puzzle, I think it’ll be easier for me.

Christmas 2003 was busy and very family-filled. I’m not used to having so many family members nearby to visit with! The B’s are headquartered in Minnesota, so holidays are usually spent very informally with my parents and siblings in town. Now that I’m married, I get to experience the big family get-togethers for both the W. and J. sides of the family. Plus, another small celebration with just his immediate family… whew! That’s a lotta family fun!

I managed to finish very nearly all of the crafty gifts that I intended to make for this year, and all seemed to be well received. So far, all of the baby items have turned out to be the correct sizes (fingers crossed on the rest), the angst-filled tote bag project ended up quite successful in the end, and Stephanie’s retro style apron was particularly a hit (I now have “orders” for several more from other family members).

My lovely husband got me a beginning knitting kit, as requested — and I’m just bursting with excitement to finally learn! So far, I’ve figured out how to cast on, knit, and purl on my own… but I can’t do any of it very handily yet. When Jeni gets back from her holiday travels, she and I are planning to get some lessons from a more experienced knitter that she knows. In the meantime, I’ve been having fun just purling a lumpy, holey, soft, and fuzzy scarf on fat needles. It’s pretty homely, but it’ll be a fun memento of my first attempts. It’s fun to learn something new. As Kate said earlier this week, “Isn’t it amazing that yesterday you didn’t know how to do something, and now you do?”
