Haiku Beginnings
What the heck am I doing starting *another* new project?? Well, it’s like this: (1) I happened to turn the page of my wall calendar and noticed that my little friend Emily is turning 1 year old at the end of March, (2) I have been itching to try the Knitty.com Haiku pattern (and ultimately Sonnet), and (3) my craft projects are one area in life where I’ve given myself permission not to be practical. That’s what hobbies are for, right?
And so a new project begins. It’s really zipping along on size 9 needles using worsted-weight Bernat Cotton Tots, color sunshine. I love that I’m already about one-third of the way through the main body piece, and I’m still on my first ball of yarn. The cool thing about this pattern is that the body of the cardigan is knit sideways, all in one piece with holes left to insert the sleeves. The pattern suggests using small buttons that will fit between the stitches, so there aren’t even buttonholes to fuss with. I thought it sounded perfect for a novice like me — and a great trial run to see if I want to attempt the adult-size version later on.
In the second picture, I folded it up so that you can start to see the cardigan’s shape. Isn’t it cute?
I may as well confess that there’s one more project that I probably won’t wait much longer to start… the gals at Mason-Dixon Knitting are organizing and Afghanalong to collect 8×8-inch squares for Afghans for Afghans. They’re collecting squares and then planning to have a stitching bee to connect them into blankets that will be dontated to Afghanistan. Check it out!

Hey there! Just had to tell you, Cotton Tots is my favorite yarn. I hope you love working with it as much as I do. The cardigan is looking great, can’t wait to see more!

That cardigan is coming along fast! Wow.
I too signed up for the Afghan-along. I’m going to add it to my other two office projects as a stress-buster. Not that my job is all that stressful, but…
Can’t wait to see what squares you come up with!

You’re really learning fast! Haiku is going to be so cute. Sadie is a doll.

I *love* those patterns. I think pretty much every kids knit pattern is cute, but the Sonnet pattern rocks.
You amaze me with your talents!
