Dress Rehearsal Is Over

Sunny days are here again! This latest attempt at creating a human child-sized sundress for Miriam is going much, much better. Bigger needles, better colors, and a bigger size pattern have made all the difference. I’m actually wondering now whether the dress will be too big… but big is OK, just as long as she’ll be able to wear it eventually!

To give you a better idea of just how tiny the first prototype was, check out this pic. Obviously, I didn’t work as many rows on the mini version, but the width difference tells the story. (Version two started with only 14 more stitches that the original.) I haven’t ripped out the mini version yet. Depending on how the larger one goes, I may come back to it and finish it as a doll dress.

Also, here’s another project that sort of snuck up on me and is turning out to be a lot of fun. My boss and I are working together on a feather and fan baby blanket for another co-worker who’s expecting. We’re each knitting 2 scarf-sized strips that we’ll attach together.

The yarn is Bernat CottonTots — I love this stuff! So soft, and I love the bright colors that they’re offering. The color palette for the blanket is actually sort of an inside joke… the mother-to-be is the project manager for a bit website redesign that we’re working on, so we thought it would be fun to use the same color palette as the site. (But we wouldn’t have done so if we didn’t also really like the colors.)

Anyway, we decided that orange was essential in order to make the joke work… but CottonTots doesn’t come in orange. SO, that little ball is the happy results of a little experiement from dying a skein of white with 2 packages of RIT dye. Seems to have worked! Yippee!

The feather and fan project sounds very interesting! I’m glad your RIT experiment worked.

Yeah! I love the dress! If it’s too big now, it’ll fit her next summer.

And I think the doll dress idea is great, too.
