Baby Stepping

After scouring my new beginner’s knitting kit for a while, I’m slowly starting to get the hang of it. I think. I can cast on pretty confidently. And I can muddle through basic knitting stitches. And basic purl stitches. So far, I just can’t seem to alternate between the two very well. But what the heck, you gotta start somewhere, right? So, I’ve been amusing myself with row upon row of purl stitches which is turning into something vaguely scarflike. Yay!

I’m using Lion Brand Homespun, acrylic yarn with size 10 needles. The gauge is wobbly and I’m dropping stitches here and there… but still the results are soft and the colors are pretty (variegated aqua blue and lavendar shades). For now, I’m happy just to have some tangible results, and I do feel like I’m getting a feel for how to work comfortably with the needles.

The kit also came with a small skein of yarn and some size 6 needles, so I’ve been using that to work more intently on how to combine the stitches and learn to read patterns.
